Just got home from a lovely weekend at Sleningford. Great site with everything we needed. Toilets / showers were a bit dated but functional, plenty of washing up sinks etc. We were on pitch 7 with EHU - pitches 1 - 6 would not suit longer tents as they are quite short. Plenty of room between tents though.

Staff were lovely and the home-made brownies in the shop were so good we brought some home!

The river was lovely - small beach like area looked like a good place to have a paddle. It was great to hear the water at night.

Great site for £20 pn, site was full when we arrived, but still plenty of space on the non-EHU pitches, so proves that management don't just cram tents in.

Would definitely go again.

Facilities great can get busy in showers but are cleaned afew times a day,

Playground - 1 slide our daughter was a bit disappointed, needs more to keep kids entertained,

Shop well stocked and includes a take away food service,

Three nice pubs close by we used Staveley Arms in North Stainley due to Garden area for Kids,

Some Staff can be a bit short with you bt generally good staff.

Just spent a very enjoyable weekend here. The pitches are large enough for the biggest family tents, the EHU pitches looked very large and well laid out too. There's water points everywhere so no lugging heavy water containers all over the site!

It feels very secure with the gated entry on to the Island and the main gates being closed at 11pm. The shop carries most things you may need in an emergency but isn't your full corner shop!

There's a laundry (untried) and a free freezer for your blocks. In the laundry room there's also a book rack on a one for one swap, brilliant if you are there to relax and read!

The kiddies play area isn't worth the name but if you're looking to put your kids in a creche then you shouldn't really be there! It's a FAMILY site and it's a real pleasure to do family stuff. There's no hard and fast rules, play footy wherever you wish but not too close to the tents etc, ball games are welcome and dogs are very welcome.

The site does get busy, we arrived to find a fully booked sign on the signpost directing us in. We were part of a group of 4 tents, they normally only allow groups of 6 to book areas but we were lucky and got a space to ourselves. That said the unbooked areas weren't overcrowded and I reckon there was room for plenty more tents but it means that there's plenty of space between tents and room to roam etc. Smart move as some places do seem to ram the tents in too much IMHO. And it's not expensive either, we paid around £40 for our weekend without an EHU, and as we'd booked it meant that the cost was cheaper as the deposit was already off the cost!

The Go2H2O guys were fabulous and were reasonably priced for our lesson too. It turned into a free for all with advice rather than a structured lesson and that was fine by us. If you want a full on lesson then they will do that too.

I wouldn't fish the river, not my sort of fishing but I saw others having a dabble, not very successfully I may add. The river is well down this year (2010). We went out to pately Bridge, for the sweet shop and park, very reasonable parking costs and the oldest sweet shop in Britain!

A couple of minor negatives. No poo bins for dog waste, it's Ok to drop it in the main bin I suppose but it go against what we normally do as most places don't want it in the bins as it attracts flies. Our area wasn't really level so we had to work out sleeping areas and sleep a bit higgledy piggledy. Both real minor things but I felt the need to mention them.

Went with my hubby and 2 daughters aged 10 and 5. Pitched near the 'beach' which was excellent for us.

Saw the manager regular going round the site making sure it was clean and tidy and he was very friendly, with plenty of advise. No walks to speak of, but we did manage to find one which takes you to the Bull Inn pub, which is a nice walk along the river. We didn't feel the need to go anywhere as the weather was amazing and the beach/water was enough for the kids.

You can hire a sit on top kayake for £20.00 for a day which we did and it was amazing. My 10 year old even did it alone, but be warned the current is very strong at some points and its quite deceiving.

The shop was great, as were the staff. It wasn't particularly expensive. We picked up an excellent dingy for £15 and 2 oars for £5. Nearly everyone on site must have bought one as this site is ideal with the river.

The laundry has a chest freezer for your ice blocks, and once someone turned it up to maximum it was ok, still took a long time though.

Ripon has chip shops, Sainsburys, Greggs.

Lightwater valley has a cash machine which you can use without having to actually go into the theme park. This was about 2 miles from site.

We visited Brimham Rocks (£4 parking for 4 hours) no admission fee though. It was amazing and a must see.

In all, the pro's outweighed the con's. We are going back as it really is a cracking site, hopefully the cadets wont.

I have visited this site several times over the last couples of years, started doing basic camping with a pal, little mountain tent, chip pan from home, second hand Swedish Army trangia cheap from Ronnie Sunshines, just so we could kayak on River Ure.

Facilities here for water activities are excellent, there is a canoe shop (GoH20) whose staff are genuinely delighted to help and advise.

When our wives decided to accompany us Camping took over from boating. We upscaled our tents and equipment (ladies need hairdryers) and we continued camping at this beautiful place

They found toilets, showers, shop, etc just as would be expected at a 5star campsite, though there is little for them to do when they are by the water rather than in it, and we all thought it was too expensive until we paid more elsewhere.

Pitches are good value when you consider that you get a lovely space and plenty of it, not crowded, showers never overstretched.

The site is well maintained and the facilities overall are clean and well kept. The staff are very friendly and nothing seems too much trouble. The shop is well stocked and reasonably priced.

It is well placed being at the side of the river Ure. There are two toilet blocks both kept clean and tidy. The nearest pubs are a 20 minute walk away and Lightwater Valley is a 10 minute drive away. We will definitely book again next year
